The gem of the Ajax Downs Quarter Horse racing stakes schedule, the 46th running of the Alex Picov Memorial Championship, highlights the Thanksgiving Holiday Monday card of 10 races beginning at 12:55 p.m.
The first 100 kids in attendance will receive a free pumpkin for decorating (starts at 1:30 p.m.), there will be giveaways and prizes and rumour has it the Headless Horseman will make an appearance.
There will also be an Ajax Downs management-in-costume race that could rival the big race on the afternoon.
The Picov Championship, at a challenging 440 yards pits three-time Horse of the Year COUNTRY BOY 123, winner of the last two Picov Championships, against his younger rival HAD TO BE IVORY, who has won both meetings with Country Boy in 2019.
COUNTRY BOY 123, owned by Ruth Barbour, has won his last three starts including the Bradford Stakes at Indiana Grand in July. Two weeks ago he landed in a dead-heat in an allowance race with Countrys Comin Bac at the short distance of 250 yards. Ed Walton rides Country Boy 123, a 21-time winner, from post three.
HAD TO BE IVORY, foaled in Ontario and owned by Carol and Jaime Robertson, draws post five under Tony Phillips. The big bay 4-year-old defeated Country BOy in his first two starts of 2019 including the Picov Maturity, He comes off a track-record setting win in the Ontario-Bred Maturity and he has 11 wins in 13 career starts.
Express Your Desire, Zoomn Blue and Maryland Magic complete the field. The Championship is race 6.
