Ontario Select Yearling Sale Taking Place September 25, 2022

The Ontario Select Yearling Sale will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Winbak Farm of Canada.

“Due to the sale’s success in 2020 and 2021, we decided that Winbak Farm will host the Ontario Select Yearling Sale for the third consecutive year,” said Jack Burke, Winbak Farm General Manager. “This date was chosen so horsepeople could enjoy both Canada’s richest night of racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park and the Ontario Select Yearling Sale.”

Winbak Farm plans on the Ontario Select Yearling Sale being the premiere of yearlings from the first crops of McWicked and Stag Party.

“Winbak Farm will be supporting the sale with a large selection of Ontario-Sired horses including first crop yearlings from 2020 Canadian Racing Hall of Fame inductee McWicked and O’Brien Award winner Stag Party,” said Burke.

Winbak Farm will also offer trotting yearlings from The Bank.

“We are also excited to offer the first crop of North American yearlings from the exciting millionaire, The Bank,” said Burke. “The Bank sired the 2020 Two-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year in Italy, Caramel Club.”

In addition to the new stallions, Winbak Farm will sell yearlings sired by proven Canadian sires.

“In 2021, four Winbak Farm stallions, Archangel, Betterthancheddar, Bettors Delight and Shadow Play, sired O’Brien Award winners, and these four stallions will all have yearlings in Winbak Farm’s 2022 consignment at the Ontario Select Yearling Sale,” said Burke. “Winbak Farm is proud to be the breeder of 2021 Canadian Horse of the Year, Desperate Man, who was sired by Shadow Play.”

Entries are now being accepted. The deadline for entries is April 15.

Please note that entries will be capped at 160. There is a $282.50 entry fee (HST included) per horse.

In the interest of keeping more money in the breeders' pockets the Ontario Select Yearling Sale will be offering tier-based commission. The minimum commission will be $500. The commissions will be set as up to $50,000 is five per cent, $50,001 to $99,999 is four per cent, and $100,000 and up is three per cent.
