The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame announced at its President’s Reception on Wed. May 18 that it will honour Norm Picov at its 2016 Induction Gala on August 3 in Mississauaga, ON for his dedicated service and unique contributions to Canada’s racing industry.
The reception, held at Woodbine Racetrack, was an introduction to the Inductees for 2016 and an unveiling of permanant plaques for the 2015 inductees.
The name Picov has been synonymous with Quarter Horse racing, community and family in the Pickering/Ajax region of Ontario for almost 50 years. Norm Picov and his family have carried on a popular and successful tradition of Quarter Horse racing in Ajax, started by his father Alex in 1969.
Quarter Horse racing has also been an important industry throughout Canada including Alberta where racing began in 1957.
"The Hall looks very forward to casting the spotlight on Mr. Picov as we recognize his role in the development of Quarter Horse Racing," said a release issued by the CHRHOF.
The Induction gala is held at the Mississauaga Convention Centre on Derry Road and features a silent auction, lavish dinner and ceremony for the 2016 inductees.
