Hands-on-Horses in full flight

Hands-on-Horses in full flight
The Hands-on-Horses Program is in full flight as the 2016 summer harness racing schedule begins. During the past month, the program made stops at Grand River Raceway, Western Fair Raceway and Kawartha Downs. The busy schedule started on May 7 with a special afternoon Kentucky Derby day card at Western Fair Raceway and many new fans of the sport had the unique opportunity to meet and drive a racehorse.

On May 13, the program returned to Western Fair to participate in a mini new owners’ seminar where fans young and old were eager to sit behind a racehorse and the team was happy to oblige.  Five days later, on Wednesday, May 18, Wannadrive attended a business open house hosted by Grand River Raceway. The track opened its doors to local businesses and allowed attendees to explore the site’s recently renovated rental spaces, sample the catering menus and drive a racehorse — part of the track’s remarkable corporate teambuilding programs.  Approximately 80 individuals had an opportunity to sit behind a racehorse for a spin around the raceway’s half mile oval.

On Friday, May 27, the Wannadrive team headed back to Western Fair Raceway to join in the festivities of Molson Pace night.  Fans young and old were again eager to sit behind a racehorse.  The next night, May 28, Wannadrive was back in action at Kawartha Downs to help launch its 2016 racing season.  A huge crowd attended opening night and many in attendance had their names drawn to experience a ride around the track.

On Sunday, May 29, Wannadrive provided rides once again at Grand River Raceway at its Open House.  This annual event, now in its eighth year, gets bigger every year and this time saw close to 400 people take part in this interactive, educational day on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  Many of those in attendance eagerly waited, sometimes in long lines, for a chance to travel around the track behind a racehorse.

As the summer racing season continues the Wannadrive program will be travelling to racetracks across Ontario to offer this interactive opportunity to racing fans.
