“The horse that changed my life is one I groomed in British Columbia while I was working for Pat Jarvis, a trainer at Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver.
I will never forget the day I walked up the shed and he nickered at me for the first time, this big, handsome chestnut named Slickster. From that moment, he had me hooked and he made every day worth it because I was having a hard time adjusting from the east coast to west coast, missing my family and home.
The fondest memory I have of him is the day of June 16, 2013. It was the day I got to call him mine. I was so happy. I already kind of knew I would get him when he retired. I had already been training him to ground tie and little stuff like that and the day he won was pretty memorable. Everyone’s hard work had paid off.
When I think of Slicktser, the first thing that comes to mind is happiness and how proud I am of how far he has come. I am now using him as the barn pony at Woodbine Racetrack for the trainer I work for, Stuart Simon.”
