Greg Gangle wasn’t yet a teenager when along came the horse that changed his life.

The popular standardbred broadcast host for the Woodbine Entertainment Group said the brown Ontario Sired gelded pacer named Bo’s Legacy was “nothing to write home about,” but remained critical to Gangle’s horsemanship and understanding of the business.

The son of Bo Knows Jate out of the Tyler B mare No No Childer earned just over $100,000 racing under the ownership and tutelage of Gangle’s father, Paul Gangle of Dutton, ON, from 1998 to 2003. Greg said the money was decent, but the lessons he learned working with Bo’s Legacy were priceless.

“He was just a B-track horse over at Sarnia and Western Fair. But that is the horse where I learned the fundamentals of horsemanship,” Greg said. “My dad operated a very small stable and I learned from grooming to cleaning stalls to eventually schooling him and paddocking him — you name it. He was a pinnacle horse and he wasn’t the soundest horse, so that offered me to learn even more about lameness issues and really helped me develop.”

Bo’s Legacy posted a record of 15-14-15 in 85 career starts, with a career best mark of 1:55.2f set at five, but he’ll always be best known to Greg Gangle as the horse that helped set him on his career path.
