Ontario’s horse racing sector plays a vital role in rural communities across the province. In response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, live horse racing has been temporarily suspended in Toronto.
During this time, horsepeople continue to incur considerable expense to maintain and care for horses, born and bred to race in Ontario. Ontario Racing is working with OLG to propose a portion of existing funds under the Funding Agreement be allocated to horsepeople. This will ensure the viability and training of racehorses impacted by the temporary suspensions, both now and potentially in the coming months, should other racetracks be impacted.
This proposal is subject to approvals. We will provide more information in the coming weeks.
