Katherine Curry Joins Ontario Racing Board of Directors

June 30, 2022
TORONTO, June 30, 2022  - Former Ontario Racing Management (ORM) Executive Director Katherine Curry has joined the Ontario Racing (OR) Board of Directors.

Curry was instrumental in creating Ontario Racing and Ontario Racing Management while she served as the association’s first Executive Director until August 2020.

OR is responsible for directing breed improvement programs, setting an annual program of races and purses, attracting new horse owners, building a fan base and connecting the industry with government and the general public.

OR also serves as the Program Administrator for the Standardbred (SIP) and Thoroughbred (TIP) Horse Improvement Programs components of Ontario’s Horse Improvement Program (HIP) as well as the Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Program (QHRIDP).

Curry is Woodbine Entertainment Group’s (WEG) Vice President Legal and Compliance and will assume the Premier Standardbred Track seat vacated by Jessica Buckley. WEG announced that Jessica Buckley is stepping away from her role as Senior Vice President, Standardbred and Thoroughbred Racing to pursue new opportunities. As a result, she is leaving the Ontario Racing (OR) Board of Directors effective June 30, 2022.

“I am excited to welcome Katherine Curry to the Board of Directors at Ontario Racing,” said John Hayes, Ontario Racing’s Independent Chair. “The Board will benefit from her business and legal acumen as we move forward with Ontario Racing’s ambitious plans.”

“Thank you to Jessica for her contributions to the Ontario horse racing industry through her time on the OR Board of Directors,” said Hayes. “Her knowledge and leadership skills were tremendous assets to the organization.”
