Michael Carter’s Flamboro Downs Selections: Thursday, May 23, 2019
Best Bet - (9) VERO AMORE BI - Race 6
Spot Play – (7) MACHO POLO – Race 3
Early Pick 4 – 7/1,3,7/1,2,6/9 - $1.80
Late Pick 4 – 1,4,7/5,6,7/4,8/1,5,9- $10.80

Race 1 - (3) P L LIGHTNING hasn’t hit the board in a few weeks, but she has been racing against tougher at Woodbine Mohawk Park.  Look for some improvement this week against easier. (1) SIN FOR CREDIT has won two of her last three at Flamboro, she has speed and will most likely be on the engine.  (4) WISDOM IS GOLD improved last week following a couple of starts where she drew the outside and needed some help.  Give her a chance tonight at decent odds.

Race 2 - (3) ZEALOUS SEELSTER got the perfect trip last week and looked like she was going to strike, but she just did not have it.  I expect some improvement.  (6) TANZANIAN steps up in class following a dominating win at Kawartha last week.  She has been good here before, no reason to think that won’t continue.  (7) HAMMERING HALEY takes a nice drop in class after facing top-tiered competition.  She has speed and could be forwardly placed this week.

Race 3 – (7) MACHO POLO could drop and pop here against an easier group.  He has struggled some over the past couple of weeks, here is an opportunity to get some confidence back.  (4) LARRY IS DEBS ROCK has gotten the perfect trip two weeks in a row and just has not shown much in the end.  He is worth a look underneath.  (2) MAN IN BLACK certainly needs his last race thrown out over the sloppy track.  Could be in play from the inside.

Race 4 - (1) REDDIT HANOVER is a straight closer who looked really sharp last week.  He continues to improve, and I like his chances this week.  (7) GENESSEE SEELSTER just had too far to come last week and didn’t fire.  The draw is tough, but he is facing easier company which could make the difference for him. If (3) EASY WRITER was coming into this race off the first qualifier, I’d say he was ready, but the qualifier over the sloppy track just doesn’t appeal to me.  Going to pass this week and see how he does.

Race 5 - (2) CLASSIC BLACKJACK has hit the board in 11 of 18 starts this year and that consistency is really hard to ignore.  She has had troubled trips in her last few efforts; with the better post draw she figures to be a strong player against this group.  (1) PRIVATE DI was stung to the quarter last week and that did her in.  She draws better tonight and could improve.  (6) COLD CREEK LACEY looked good turning for home last week and then got bobbly and made a break.  Look for her to return to form.

Race 6 - (9) VERO AMORE BI transitioned to Flamboro well following a tough stint at Woodbine Mohawk Park.  Easily my Best Bet of the night.  (2) TENOR DUHARAS was stung to the first quarter last week and was all done after that.  Going to give another chance here as he has the speed rating (TM) to hang with this class.  (5) EXPLOSIVE JET closed from off the pace last week and just ran out of racetrack.  The improved post gives this Moreau trained mare a big chance.

Race 7 - (4) AVICII really took to London in her last two starts.  That confidence may be exactly what she needs to keep growing.  (1) ARTIAWITCHTOYOU draws the winningest post at Flamboro and seems to really like this track.  I think she will be more forwardly placed this week which will allow her to be in a good striking spot.  (7) LITTLE ANNA MAE has only missed the board once in her last five starts.  She is a speedy mare who likes to fire off the car.  I think she has a chance to make the ticket at big odds.  (8) LILYS PENELOPE got a good trip at Kawartha last week and just did not have it in the end.  I’m going to throw that race out and hope that she takes to Flamboro better.  (3) HONOR ROLL closed gamely last week and just had too much ground to make up.  This is another mare who will most certainly be around late.

Race 8 - (5) ENCARNACION went to the lead from the outside last week and just had nothing for the challengers that went by him.  If he can return to form tonight, he lays over this field.  (6) HOPES SOLO made a break last week and never recovered from it.  She is a speedy mare who will most likely be on or near the lead.  (7) CADENCE SEELSTER steps up in class following being scratched sick in her last start.  She is versatile having the ability to come from off the pace or be forwardly placed.  Definitely worth a look at a price.

Race 9 - (8) OK GEMMA drops in class coming to Flamboro for the first time.  From a speed rating (TM) perspective she should win decisively.  Worth a look here. (6) LADY EVERLONG adds Lasix for the first time this week following a very tough effort last week.  She has speed and I look for her to be on or near the lead.  (3) KAYMAR CHROME looked like a winner at the ¾ pole last week and then she flattened out late. Though she has shown improvement in her last couple of starts; I would use her underneath here.

Race 10 - (1) J K EXPRESS went to the lead last week and never looked back.  I think that first start truly helps this horse out and he figures to continue to improve. (9) MOVIE STAR drops in class this week after a really tough effort at Woodbine Mohawk Park last out.  He has been known to show speed before, and he can utilize that following the inside horse out.  (5) RECORD YEAR steps up in class having only missed the board once in four starts.  He liked the surface at Flamboro, I expect him to return to that form here. (8) EXCALIBER SEELSTER drops down to face easier company following a sluggish start to the year.  While he draws a little tough, the class drop could make the difference.  (6) BROLIC moves up in class following a qualifier that says he is ready to go.
