Michael Bozich's Western Fair Selections for Monday, May 20, 2019

Best Bet - (4) JIMS GREAT - Race 1
Spot Play - (4) BLUE EYED COWBOY - Race 8
Early Pick 4 - 1,4,5/3,5,7/2,4/1,3,4,5,8 = $18
Late Pick 4 - 1,4,5/all/2,3,4/1 = $12.60

Race 1 - (4) JIMS GREAT gets the services of St Louis after getting shuffled out of contention as the favorite in his last. He eyes a wakeup call here. (3) ALL AROUND DRAGON makes his third start off the bench after a win at Sarnia. He had success here in the beginning of the year. (2) CYCLONE JOE has been his own worst enemy in terms of positioning and miscues. Perhaps the move inside will remedy his issues.

Race 2 - (1) CASIMIR OVERDRIVE raced fine in his local bow from the second tier. The rail draw will give him a fighting chance to upend the heavy favorite. (2) HOPETOBEFIRST should be a prohibitive favorite against this same group once again. His form is certainly undeniable at the present. (4) REAL WICKED has been popular in the claiming box, but only has a series of second place finishes to show for it. He could benefit from a fast pace here tonight.

Race 3 - (1) RACEBYTHESEASIDE made up a lot of ground in a solid effort last start. A positive post shift should make his life easier tonight. (5) NOTHINGELSEMATTERS raced virtually the same race as the above last out. You will get better value on this guy, considering he stays outside. (4) J K EXPRESS was sharp in his qualifier last week at Flamboro. A repeat of that effort gets his picture taken.

Race 4 - (7) GREYSTONE WISKY O returns to the half mile after an even effort at Sarnia. Steward returns and the horse has speed to overcome the outside post, which should make the price. (3) TOXIC HANOVER took them all the way last time despite broken equipment. He lands in another beatable field here. (5) DECEPTION SEELSTER gets slight post relief after a rallying third in his latest. We haven't seen this guy in 3 weeks, but he hails from a capable barn.

Race 5 - (2) DRAKE faces a much easier field after racing evenly against mid to upper claimers. Henry sticks around. (4) SINGHAMPTON KENNY certainly enjoyed the class relief in his latest, nearly taking them all the way. He is in a similar situation tonight. (1) MONSTER IN LAW nearly pulled off a 55-1 shocker when he faced a similar group in early April. He's back to this level and armed with post 1.

Race 6 - (5) INTENDED ROYALTY is coming off a sparkling effort in the slop at Flamboro. He takes an ambitious step up here, but we have no idea where his ceiling is. We're willing to find out if given decent odds. (1) REEL has been facing primarily Preferred types, while the others have been bouncing up and down the class ladder. He gets the rail draw but has been missing for a month. (4) TUITON MONEY just never got involved last out. He is much better closer to the leaders. (8) BETTOR BB is coming off two solid wins. He'll likely be the favorite off the strength of those performances, but the second tier could be a hindrance. (3) GRITS N GRAVY was the runner up to the above in his most recent. He has the speed to stay close to the action.

Race 7 - (3) SUPERSPORT sustained his bid nicely in his latest against virtually the same group. He draws well again and is primed for a repeat. (1) DELOREAN SEELSTER brushed into a hot tempo last time and had nothing left to fend off our top pick. He gets the rail draw once again. (2) MAXIMUS POWER followed our top pick in his latest. He draws well and should be a factor from the word go.

Race 8 - (4) BLUE EYED COWBOY debuts for the McDonnell barn after a series of good tries against hardened claiming types. We're willing to find out how he fits against conditioned grapplers with the proper value. (5) FOOL ME ONCE gets class relief and St Louis after a few dismal efforts. He's in a good spot to rebound. (1) HIDDEN POTENTIAL didn't have much fun against Preferred types last out. He's back down the condition ladder with the rail starting spot.

Race 9 - (2) JACK OF CLUBS gets a slight nod in a wide-open affair. He gets class relief and draws well. A majority of the speed is on the outside, which could set it up for an inside closer. (7) JAKE PARRISH fits well against this group, but Steward will have to get creative with other speed to his inside. The post should make the price. (3) ROUGH TRADE has been hampered with poor striking position as of late. He gets class relief and a friendly post draw.

Race 10 - (4) WINDSONG OPHELIA has been racing well of late while utilizing a variety of racing styles. That versatility can help her spring a mild upset here. (3) SHEZA CHUNKYMONKEY is a one-way ticket to the front end from this post. Once again, the onus will be on the rest of them to catch her. (2) POWER AND GRACE did catch the above off a perfect trip in her last. She draws well and figures to be prominent from the word go once again.

Race 11 - (1) LUCAN HANOVER had little chance from a poor post at Buffalo in his latest. An earner of over $1 million, Lucan figures to be a major player from post 1. (4) BLUE MOOSE deserves another chance after never getting involved last out. A slightly better post should put him in the ball game. (3) ROYAL RENEGADE has plenty of speed in his arsenal. We're not quite sure where he fits on the condition ladder locally, so he's best used underneath for now. (8) BOOM BOOM BALLYKEEL get an easier group after never getting involved last out. The veteran is closing in on the $1 million in career earnings. (5) UNDRAFTED is coming off a clunker, but recent races at this level suggest he could bounce back and take a share.
