During last week’s Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity Final at Ajax Downs there was an interesting common throughline between the top four finishers.
His name is Peighnt Your Fate.
The sire of Runaway Fate, Niigaanii, First for You and Peighntmeadiamond, who finished 1-4 during the Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity, Peighnt Your Fate looks like a stallion to keep a close eye on, particularly if you’re in the Quarter Horse game in Ontario.
Those four two-year-olds, along with Fate Zoomin, who won the Ajax Stallion Auction Futurity stakes race on June 26, are all part of Peighnt Your Fate’s first crop during his first year as an Accredited Ontario Sire.
His pedigree is strong, coming from PYC Paint Your Wagon and Fate Cant Weight, and those good traits have appeared to pass along to his progeny.
“He’s out of PYC Paint Your Wagon, who was a great sire, and the mother was out of Mr Jess Perry, who is another great stallion,” said Linda Wincikaby, who owns Peighnt Your Fate along with her husband Richard. “So, both mama and papa did great things on the track, so we felt like we had a good chance that Peighnt Your Fate would do something good, too. And he did.”
Most impressively about what Peighnt Your Fate has appeared to pass along, beyond the raw athleticism, has been his smarts.
“I think the athleticism and the pedigree and the talent [has been passed along], but I think what’s just as important is that they're smart,” said stallion manager Michelle Woodley of Peighnt Your Fate’s offspring. “They have good, solid, trainable brains in them. That is so important with young horses – especially two-year-olds. That they pick up all the things that you teach them along the way, right? They're, very, very trainable.”
An interesting fact about Peighnt Your Fate, is it isn’t just Quarter Horses that want to have what he has on offer.
“He bred a few more mares in 2023, so they’ll be two-year-olds next year,” said Woodley. “We have also bred some barrel racing mares and, actually, this year we bred a very well-bred cow horse mare to make breakaway horses, to add a little bit more speed into their cow horses.
“Because [Peighnt Your Fate] is such a good boy, he has the talent and the athleticism, but he has the brain. And those different disciplines want the brain.”
