OSS 50th Anniversary Celebration heads to The Raceway at Western Fair District on Camluck Classic night

MILTON, May 30, 2024 – The Ontario Sires Stakes 50th Anniversary Celebration heads to The Raceway at Western Fair District Friday with four $20,000 Grassroots Series divisions for three-year-old pacing colts featured on Camluck Classic night.

The Grassroots races are slated for Races 3, 4, 11 and 12, while the $150,000 Camluck Classic Invitational pace is scheduled for Race 10 of the 12-race card.

Race 3 promises to be a much-anticipated one as it sees the return of 2023’s Grassroots two-year-old pacing colt points leader D A MCDREAMY (MCWICKED) and last year’s two-year-old pacing colt Grassroots Final winner ENFORCER (BIG JIM).

D A MCDREAMY, will be driven by James MacDonald Friday, is trained by Shawn Steacy, owned by Katherine Steacy, Landmark 16 Racing Stable (Lansdowne, Ont.), Theodore Davis (Ohsweken, Ont.) and G Angela Haskell (Guelph, Ont.), and bred by Ashley Wilson and Dean Wilson (Kerwood, Ont.).

ENFORCER, who is owned by Aaron Waxman (Carlisle, Ont.), Alan Alber (Thornhill, Ont.) and David Jarvis (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), bred by Seelster Farms Inc. (Lucan, Ont.), and trained by Gregg McNair will have Tyler Borth in the bike seat behind him.

Another horse to watch in Race 3 is VIS A VIS BLUECHIP (BETTORS DELIGHT), who was bred by
Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc. (Wallkill, N.Y.), owned by Paul and Nicole Davies (Arthur, Ont.), is trained by Paul Davies and will also by driven by Paul.

VIS A VIS BLUECHIP is coming off back-to-back wins at The Raceway, both times with Davies driving. The level of competition he will be facing Friday will be steeper with D A MCDREAMY and ENFORCER in the field, but Davies believes his horse has an advantage with track familiarity.

“I know [VIS A VIS BLUECHIP] can get around the track,” said Davies. “I don’t know if [D A MCDREAMY and ENFORCER] have ever been there before, so anything can happen. It’s a pretty tight half-mile track and some horses don’t adjust to it as well as others.”

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration, fans coming down to enjoy the races will also be able to view photos and memorabilia from seasons past along with giveaways, activity books for the young ones and a timeline illustrating the 50-year history of the OSS.

In advance of Friday’s Anniversary celebration, noted Canadian harness racing writer and historian Robert Smith wrote a brief history of The Raceway at Western Fair District that you can read here.
