LORETTO, Ont., December 12, 2023 - Gufo, a multiple-graded stakes winner, will stand at Ballycroy Bloodstock for the 2024 breeding season.
The freshman sire, by Declaration of War out of Floy by Petionville, won at two and was a graded stakes winner at three, four and five, including the Resorts World Casino Sword Dancer Stakes in 2021.
In 21 career starts, Gufo compiled a 9-4-5 record, earning over $2.1 million in his career.
“He’s a war horse,” said Michaela Kemp, director of bloodstock at Ballycroy Bloodstock. “He raced 21 times and he was in the money 18 of those times.”
While racing, Gufo earned a reputation as a strong turf racer, competing with and beating out some of the best in the world.
“He’s defeated a lot of really great millionaire turf horses and we thought he would probably be the most accessible to get and to set up here,” said Kemp.
Added Dr. John Little, Gufo’s co-owner and co-breeder: “Gufo is more muscular and larger than most world class two turn turf horses which I feel will be a welcome change in the sale ring for his offspring.”
Gufo will stand for $4,500. Ballycroy Bloodstock will be providing special multi-mare discounts as well as a 50 per cent off-stud fee for any mares that are under 12 years of age and was a Maiden Special Weight winner at two, a stakes winner, or has produced a stakes horse.
