MILTON, September 28, 2023 – Momentary Control won the third race tonight at Woodbine Mohawk Park, a $101,300 Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Gold division for three-year-old pacing fillies.
Tyler Jones kept Momentary Control (Control The Moment) off the pace set by leader Savethelastdance (Bettors Delight) and driver James MacDonald, through fractions of 26.2, 56.0, and 1:24.3.
In the backstretch, Momentary Control overtook Savethelastdance to take the lead but quickly lost the advantage in the far turn.
Then in deep stretch, Momentary Control rallied back to cross the wire first in a time of 1:51.1.
Talk Curdy To Me (Betterthancheddar) driven by Louis-Philippe Roy, challenged Savethelastdance late in the race to win the battle for second place.
Savethelastdance completed the podium in third.
“I think she matched up well with the Gold fillies all year,” said Jones. “She’s been racing really, really well in her last three starts, and it gave me extra confidence going in that I beat out some of them last week.”
The Control The Moment filly has made $198,216 over the course of her career for co-owners Andrea Lea Racingstables Inc. and Colin McKenna.
Momentary Control has also collected $76,906 in OSS earnings this year and is trained by Dustin Jones.
“We focused on OSS this year and we thought if she was going to be good enough, she was going to make her money in this program,” said driver Jones. “It’s one of the best in the world.”
Talk Curdy To Me is trained by Chantal Mitchell, and the filly’s second-place finish doubled her OSS earnings this year to $45,552 for co-owners 9261-7620 Quebec Inc., and Mitchell Di Cenzo.
Third place Savethelastdance has collected $63,341 in OSS earnings this year for owner Millar Farms and now has earned over $253,451 in her career.
The Bettors Delight filly is trained by Nick Gallucci.
Momentary Control’s Gold win paid $9.00.
“We are pretty confident in the OSS program, and now we’re sitting pretty good for the Super Final,” said Jones.
The second division of the night for three-year-old pacing fillies was race eight on the card, and One Last Wish (Bettors Delight) driven by Paul MacDonell came away with the win crossing the wire at 1:51.1.
MacDonell took One Last Wish straight to the front out of post one and kept the lead through fractions of 27.1, 56.1, and 1:23.3.
She was challenged late in deep stretch as they were three across at the line, but One Last Wish proved too strong.
Mist Amber (Betterthancheddar) driven by Sylvain Filion finished in second while Lyons Bettorday (Bettors Delight) piloted by Doug McNair finished in third.
“She’s come back phenomenal this year,” said MacDonell. “Right from the start she was strong, a lot stronger than last year, and she’s carried it right through the year.”
One Last Wish has made $297,802 over the course of her career and $224,544 in OSS earnings this year for co-owners Brian Legge, and Dr. David Legge.
The Bettors Delight filly is trained by Ken Sucee and paid $5.90 for the win.
