ELORA, September 26, 2023 – Grand River Raceway will roll out the red carpet for the province’s top Prospect Series competitors this Wednesday, with eight $15,000 finals highlighting the 6:30 p.m. program.
Fergus, ON resident Bruce Richardson will steer four Prospect Series finalists and is optimistic about the chances of claiming a championship title.
“I have four drives and all four have a shot to win,” said Richardson, who will team up with two-year-old trotting filly Sandoon to lead the parade of Prospect Series hopefuls onto the half-mile oval from post one in the first race.
“She’s just a nice little filly,” said Richardson of the Lookslikeachpndale daughter, who is owned by trainer John Holding of Kitchener and Morley Bosomworth of Elora, ON and topped the regular season standings with 200 points earned from three wins and two seconds in five starts. “That one of (Gregg) McNair’s will be tough through; she came on late.”
Gregg McNair trainee Radical Legacy will start from post five in the two-year-old trotting filly showdown and boasts a record of two wins and one second in three Prospect Series outings.
Richardson’s second drive of the evening will come in the two-year-old pacing filly final with Quiet Assurances who, like Radical Legacy, has two wins and one second in her three regular season outings.
Susanne Kerwood of Acton, ON trains the homebred daughter of Control The Moment for Howard Taylor of Philadelphia, PA and Falcon Racing LLC of Jackson, NJ.
The talented youngster will take aim at the Series title from post three in race four.
Two races later Richardson will steer Savannahs Dream from post four in the three-year-old trotting filly final for his partners Joseph Coffey of Orangeville and Peter Irwin of Ayton, ON.
The Archangel daughter, who Richardson also trains, recorded two wins, one second and one fifth-place result in her four regular season appearances.
“She’s all right, she’s been consistent all year,” said the trainer-driver. “We should have a shot.”
The local horseman will wrap up his Prospect Series Final chances in the seventh race, teaming up with another hopeful owned by trainer John Holding and Morley Bosomworth.
Three-year-old trotting gelding Leading Resolve will take aim on the top prize from post two.
The Prospect Series Finals will go postward as races one, three, four, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten with the two-year-old trotting fillies kicking things off at 6:30 p.m.
