WHO SHOULD I CHEER FOR?
Messier! No not the hockey player, the horse. Messier is a three-year-old bay colt, born in Milton, Ont., at Sam-Son Farm.
He’s never finished worse than second in six career starts, including two graded stakes wins. He’s owned by a group called The Avengers. It's headed by bloodstock agent Tom Ryan.
Tom Ryan’s wife's father is Pat Hughes, who played with Mark Messier on the Edmonton Oilers, which is the genesis of the name.
