The stars of the 2019 Quarter Horse racing season at Ajax Downs, its 50th year of racing, will be celebrated at the QROOI's annual Awards Banquet, Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Ajax Convention Centre.
Some of the newer faces to the Ontario Quarter Horse racing industry will be receiving their first awards.
Cameron, Ontario's James Bogar, who raced his first horse in 2015, was the season's High Point Owner based on a horse-performance points system derived by the QROOI. His stable earned 257 points, won 16 races and finished second or third 55 times from 135 starts. His horses were trained by Barry Wood.
Jason Pascoe, from Pontypool, is the High Point Trainer of the Year for the first time since he began training in 2006. His equine students won 35 races from 163 starts and collected 339 QROOI points.
Carol McIntyre of Hampton, ON, led all owners who train their own horses and will receive the High Point Owner/Trainer Trophy. Carol is in only her third year of training the horses of her Big Dog Stable, shared with husband Dave. They won 15 races and amassed 128 points in 2019.
The Horse of the Year battle will come down to Ontario-bred HAD TO BE IVORY, a two-time stakes winner in 2019 and reigning champion COUNTRY BOY 123, the Horse of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The winner will be announced on awards night.
