Two hundred and four (204) horses were sold at the
Canadian Premier Yearling Sale (CTHS Ontario), which took place at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion on August 31.
Once again, there were several familiar names present, including Hall of Fame conditioners Roger Attfield and Robert Tiller, along with Catherine Day Phillips and Mike De Paulo, who all bought horses.
Santino Di Paola, in his first year training, added a bay daughter of Spaniard (Hip 222) named Call Me Mrs. G.
“Obviously, there are some challenging times for many people in our industry right now, but in saying that, we’re excited about her future,” said Di Paola of the $22,000 purchase. “We liked the way she looked and liked her walk. Hopefully, things work out and she can have a nice career.”
Di Paola currently has 12 horses in training, owns a 50 per cent share in D’s Double Eagle and a 25 per cent share in Papa D (
pictured).
The 23-year-old, whose family has been breeding and racing horses in Ontario for over 40 years, is looking forward to developing the filly.
“That’s one of the best parts of being a trainer,” said Di Paola, who is also a thoroughbred photographer, videographer and owner of the horse racing media site, CHRTB. “To see them grow and mature and get ready for that first race.”
