Michael Carter’s Flamboro Downs Selections: Saturday, October 9, 2021
Best Bet - (6) SHOOTINFORTHESTARS - Race 5
Spot Play - (1) LADY KATIE B – Race 8
20-Cent Early Pick 5 – Race 1 – 4,6/2,5/1,3,9/1,2,7/6 = $7.20
20-Cent Late Pick 5 – Race 6 – 1,3,4/1,3,7/1,3,6/2,6 = $10.80
20-Cent Early Pick 4 – Race 3 – 1,3,9/1,2,7/6/1,3,4 = $5.40
20-Cent Late Pick 4 – Race 7 – 1,3,7/1,3,6/2,6/1,4,9 = $10.80

Race 1 —  (4) MACHCELLERATOR gets home-field advantage in a field that features a lot of invaders. He raced better than the line shows last week and just had too much ground to make up. He should improve with post relief.  (6) BARRYS SHELBY gets the services of Colin Kelly on his first trip to Flamboro. He is versatile but seems to do his best work when near the lead. Look for him to be put into the race early.  (2) JULIO LAUXMONT should hit the ticket if his form transfers from Kawartha.

Race 2 —  (2) BLOGMASTER has done well since coming in from Grand River four starts back. The son of Hambletonian champion Glidemaster has a lot of speed and should get the fractions his way.  (5) WILLYWIN lost all chance in the Prospect Final, making a break after the start last week. If he stays flat he is dangerous; using underneath.  (3) SWEET AMBITIONS has been no worse than fourth in her last six starts; she gets post relief and figures to hit the ticket.

Race 3 —  (3) FERN HILL FANCY put up a considerable effort from post eight last week. She has speed and will most likely be up-front early. (1) MARVELOUS KISS gets Henry back in the bike tonight following a decent effort last out. She is another speedy filly who has been racing well against this class.  (9) SANTAFES MJ closed gamely from off the pace last week, winning by a neck. She will be able to follow inside speed and should get a good trip.

Race 4 —  Natasha Day has done well with (2) SHEILAS BRUSH previously. She draws well here and should get a good trip from the inside.  (7) WRITENINSAND S BG closed from off the pace last week and couldn't get to the top two. She draws outside; I'm not as concerned about the draw, especially with the driver change to Travis Cullen.  (1) MAGNOLIA MOONSTONE should make the ticket if she can stay flat.

Race 5 —  (6) SHOOTINFORTHESTARS has won 11 of 16 starts this season for trainer Tyler Nostadt. It doesn't seem to matter where this gelding draws, he is always a part of the ticket.   (8) OUTLAW GUNPOWDER won easily from off the pace last time out. He draws the outside again, and if he can work out the same kind of trip, lookout.  (9) DABUNKA is a speedy gelding who bounced back nicely in his second start off the layoff. This is a good spot for him, and he could spring an upset.  (5) ROUGH TRADE has hit the board in four of his last five starts; he is versatile and could make the exotics interesting.  (7) JETSET CHARMER should be able to make the back-end of the Super Hi-5.

Race 6 —  (1) JACKSON KILLEAN should use the rail to his advantage to control the fractions. He will be fighting down the lane.  (3) EAS IDEAL raced much better than the line shows last out. He was stung to the first quarter from the outside and was still only a few lengths off the leader. He will be a player here with the improved post draw.  (4) DURHAM TOWN has been hit or miss lately; there isn't much speed to the inside, so he should be able to work out a better trip here.

Race 7 —  (7) MERENGUE SEELSTER had a perfect trip last week and was able to get up by a head. She draws outside this week, so things may be tougher, but I still like her chances.  (1) LADY LIBBY raced well from post six in her first career start, now she draws the rail; unfortunately, you won't get 11/1 this week. Don't count this filly out.  (3) LADY BETTS ships in from Mohawk Park after a decent effort there. She gets over the half well and should take a share.

Race 8 —  (1) LADY KATIE B didn't get the best trip from post seven last week, but she made up a lot of ground in that effort. She draws the rail tonight; the value is there, especially if she is anywhere close to her morning line odds.  (6) BETTOR COUNTRY picks up Colin Kelly again this week, who has won two of the last four starts with this filly. She has speed but can also close from off the pace.  (3) HAVANA PANIC did well from the outside last out; she should be a player here moving inside.

Race 9 —  (6) CASEOUS has hit the board twice since coming in from Sarnia. She is a talented filly with a lot of speed, look for her to be leaving this week; driver change to Coulter.  (2) PERFECT MIA will be put to the test tonight coming in from Three Rivers. She has speed and has been no worse than fourth as of late; she could spice the exotics up.  (3) GOTAGETUPTOGETDOWN looks to improve in her second start off the layoff.

Race 10 —  (1) HELLO ROCKY will try his luck north of the border for the first time tonight, coming in from southern Ohio where he was facing tougher; he should have no issues with this field tonight.  (4) KEYSTONE TAZ has been no worse than fourth in his last six starts. He is versatile, with a lot of ability, worth a look underneath.  (9) CHUCK HEATON LOVE was able to hang on after cutting the mile last week. He will have to come from off the pace this week from the second tier.  (5) DOVER SEELSTER suffered broken equipment last week and won at this level two back; he can take a share here.  (2) J J AUSTIN was impeded at the start last week and still almost won; drawing inside here he should be able to hit the ticket.
