Jennifer Morrison’s Woodbine Thoroughbred Selections: Sunday, July 26, 2020
Best Bet –  (7) NASHTRICK – Race 10
Spot Play  - (7) BEN LOMOND – Race 2
Pick 4  (.20 cents, Races 4-7) : 1, 7, 9, 11 / 2, 4, 5 /2, 5, 6, 7 / 1, 2, 5 = $28.80
Late Pick 4 (.20 cents, Races 6-9):  1, 2, 5 /1, 2, 5, 7, 10 , 11 / 3, 4, 7, 10 / 7 = $14.40

Race 1 –  (3) SOUPER HOT is a consistently good sprinter who loves turf (he is a stakes winner on the surface). This is his third race of the season and that could mean a peak effort is on the way. (4) ALICIA'S KID defeated the pick when he came off the layoff for that 6 furlong turf dash June 27. He has since run again, 10 days ago, and was overmatched,  (1) ROCKCREST has been working quickly and should be a speed presence from the rail.  (2) FOUR ACES HIGH has been waiting for another short dash on the inner turf after winning his latest with blinkers on. He had a fast workout since that maiden win.

Race 2- (7) BEN LOMOND had a troubled outing nine days ago on the inner turf and he moves back to the main turf and he has done well on this course. There is speed for him to stay close to in this third race of the season. (6) NASHVILLE KNIGHT is quick and will have to be run down as he comes off a big effort on the main track. (3) SLIP KID has not won on the grass from 8 attempt but he has run well on the surface and his season opener can be excused as it was a bit troubled. (10) R U WATCHINGBUD is a classy old time who rarely runs a bad race and he seems to like the grass.

Race 3- (7) SILENT CAUSEWAY should be able to bounce back to that sensational maiden win she had June 14, recording an 80 Beyer Figure and winning by 8 lengths. She went too fast in a pace battle last time and now gets Lasix, loses the blinkers and shortens up slightly in distance. (2) WAKE UP MAGGIE has had two solid runs to begin her 3-year-old season and just needs a bit more power in the last furlong. Justin Stein takes over and he won 4 races Saturday. (6) GO GIGI GO GIGI GO had a better start from the gate second time out in her career and got her maiden win in a good clocking. (4) COOL SOCIETY has worked a bullet 5furlongs since her near miss in her first race of the year this class and distance.

Race 4- The Pick 4 wager begins with this 1 mile maiden race on the main turf and (11) PHANTOM DANCE was bottled up in tight traffic for most of the stretch run June 20 and once he got clear the winner was long gone. (9) JUST LIKE LARRY was second, albeit eight lengths in arrears, of sizzling Shirl's Speight in a maiden turf race July 4. 'Shirl' came right back to win the Grade 3 Marine Stakes Saturday. (7) OPUS NORTH is back on his home turf after an unsuccessful spring in Florida and Kentucky but he did run well here last fall. (1) IRVING was burned out in a pace battle in his season opener  and this well bred colt can do better.

Race 5 – (4) SOUPER SIZE IT is by the 2019 leading juvenile sire and first crop sire Souper Speedy and this guy has had some good workout times preparing for his debut. (2) GALVASTON has experience as she was second in his debut as the favourite. (5) PINK GELATO is by first crop sire Ami's Holiday, who won his 2-year-old debut and this guy is bred for speed. (1) EXCEED is also by Ami's Holiday and he ran a good race first time out despite a crowded start.

Race 6 – (5) FREEDOM MACHINE moves out to a 1 mile turf maiden race after she came from well back to beat half the field in her season opener. The winner of that race came right back to win again and another one from that race came back to be second in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes. (7) LET'S GO NOW had apleasing debut in feb. 2019 and recently joined the Mark Casse team. (6) ELKE DO JAGUARETE comes in from Kentucky where she had a pair of fringe placings in two-turn turf races at long odds. She may be meeting easier. (2) JUST PLAYING, carrying the same colours as the might Tepin,  had mixed results as a juvenile while being well travelled. She has had good workout times recently.

Race 7 – (1) SKYWIRE was a huge 17 to 1 when he won he Grade 2 Eclipse July4 keeping his record on the Woodbine Tapeta very strong. He meets the same group for the most part and deserves to be the top pick. (5) AVIE'S FLATTER wore blinkers for the Eclipse and once again he looked like he was a winner in the strtech but he was passed late by Skywire. He must correct his stalling habit. (2) MR RITZ won this race last year  over an easier field and he may have needed his outing in the Eclipse to get back into racing shape. (3) JUNGLE FIGHTER's workouts have been very impressive this year and he has been away for 10 months. He ended his 3-year-old season with a good 3rd in the Ontario Derby and he has a new trainer in Mike Doyle this season.

Race 8 –  These are $10,000 maiden claimers on the grass and (1) SUNDANCE HIT comes out of a hot barn. Anthony 'Slash' Pottinger sent out his second turf winner of the meeting Saturday at long odds and this gelding is by a sire who loved grass and the mare adds turf breeding. (7) CASH ADVANCE plunges in class for his season debut and his barn is off to a good start. (11) DENMARK has picked up a few shares in maiden turf races. (10) SEIFERT has turf breeding from his sire and dam and stretches out in distance for this third race of the year.

Race 9 – (10) KILLAG KATIE posted a career best Beyer Figure in her penultimate 2019 outing, an 86 for a win at this class and distance. She finished up her workouts with a bullet 5 furlong move July 10 and could be ready.(7) AVIE'S SAMURAI meets older gals for the first time off a mid-race move in the Fury Stakes. Her pair of 80+ Beyer Figures this year put her on the short list of contenders in a speed-filled sprint. (3) PEARL HEIST has not been seen in a year and made just one start in 2019. She flaunted speed and talent in 2018 and her workout times this year have been strong. (4) SAV is a consistently good filly who ran hard in her June 13 opener when a close second.

Race 10 – (7) NASHTRICK has been second in two races in 2020, one in New Orleans and then last time June 14 in a turf sprint here. He was a clear runner-up in that race behind a fast winner. (8) SOUPER SCAT DADDY has been gelded since he last raced in Florida in April. He has a string of hefty beyer Speed Figures from his grass races. (3) MR DIFFLEY is improving and he will be keen to get back on the grass. (10) MUCHOKOVA was an impressive maiden winner at a longer distance on turf and this is a good spot for him to continue his progress. For the Super High 5 consider (4) MIRACLE SILVER who ran a super race on turf in his season debut behind graded stakes winner Silent Poet.
