Jennifer Morrison’s Woodbine Thoroughbred Selections: Friday, November 20, 2020
Best Bet –  (6) RED STORM RISEN – Race 9
Spot Play –  (4) TRUFFLE KING – Race 7
Pick 4 Play  (.20 cents, Races 4-7): 1, 4  / 1, 2, 3, 9 / 4, 5  / 1, 3, 4 = $9.60
Late Pick 4 Play  (.20 cents, Races 7-10): 1, 3, 4 /1, 6, 8  / 6 / all = $19.80

Race 1 – This race, like others on this Friday card, were set to go last Sunday before high winds cancelled racing. (5) GREEN FLEET exits a fast race and he was close to the early pace and stayed on well while the winner came from far back.(2) INSIDER TRADING has spent a lot of time racing on the grass and while his last three outings in marathon turf events have been okay, he won his maiden in 2018 on the Tapeta. He is worth a look as he could post a Beyer Figure in the 70 range and that gets him close.  (1) GREEK GEEK ran well in his return to Woodbine after going back to Alberta to win his maiden in fast time. His trainer Tim Rycroft was Alberta's leading trainer for 2020. (7) SWEEPIN HARD has not been seen since he tried the Queen's Plate after his maiden win and he can get a share in this comeback.

Race 2- Tough race to handicap as several of these $20,000 claimers are coming off at least one win.  I will try a fellow who didn't win last time, (2) GEARHEAD who makes his 2nd start in a year for trainer Michael Trombetta, who has sent his horses north to Woodbine this year and is winning at a whopping 42% rate. This gelding has some back class.  (3) CARMENOOTZ is an upset possibility as he dips down in class and has early speed.  (9) FEDERAL LAW, a stakes winner last year, had a wake up outing last time when second. (5) GLENVILLE GARDENS continues to roll at age 8 with two straight grass wins and he is okay on the Tapeta too.

Race 3- (7) IN ALL ALONE took some betting support for his debut and ran well to be second behind a logical winner. He has since had several super-sharp workouts and looks like a fast learner. (5) RACING IN THE RAIN can take advantage of all the speed runners in the field and he was just a head behind the top pick in a race two starts ago. (2) AIM FOR THE SKY has been second in three of his four career races and battled on the pace all the way last time when a close second. (1) NORTHERN CONQUEST is a handsome colt who has been given lots of time to get ready for his career debut and he has speed and stamina in his breeding.

Race 4–  (1) SOUPER HOT has been so close in most of his races this year and last time he ran too good to lose, missing by half a length in 1:09 for six furlongs. He shortens to 5 furlongs and should be able to chase and pounce on the speed if the rail post does not restrict him. (4) CHECKERBOARD FLOOR has mad $100,000 in four starts and he was just behind the top pick last time. (5) TRICKY MAGICIAN has been running well in longer sprints on Tapeta and turf. (6) BEND IN THE RIVER comes off a win at 5 1/2 furlongs and meets tougher.

Race 5 – First-time starter (3) RUBYINTHESTARS is worth a look as she has had plenty of foundation. She worked 2 furlongs in 22 1/5 for that sale in July in Florida, had some nice preps at Classic Mile and has continued on locally. Leggy filly should be used in exotics.  (9) SILENT BUT VIOLENT is back to sprinting on the Tapeta after a couple of turf races and she has been in contention in her last three starts. Owner Goldmart Farms won 2 races a week ago Thursday. (2) FOR MY ELBI is stakes placed and has been in the top three in all but one of her races and she is very logical. (1) USING COCONUTS is a beginner for top trainer Josie Carroll and she is by a high percentage juvenile debut sire and has some good workout times.

Race 6- (4) DANI'S VICTORY has been an improved runner this year for trainer John Charalambous and he fits nicely in this starter handicap. A stretch running sprinter, he does not race at a route distance much but the last time he did he was second by just a head. (5) TOLD IT ALL can bounce back after an impossible task in the 1 1/2 mile Breeders' Stakes, made more so when he pursued a diabolical pace battle. (3) COLEYVILLE is impossible to predict as he puts up an 80 Beyer Figure on occasion and out of the blue. (1) THE BOSS FACTOR is a need-t-lead grass horse who will have other pace to contend with on the main track.

Race 7 – (4) TRUFFLE KING had a nice debut outing on the inner turf as he rode the rail in mid-pack and closed ground with long strides. He should be just fine with the move to a route race on Tapeta with Lasix added. His stablemate (3) KEEP GRINDING gets Lasix also and jockey Justin Stein seems to have chosen this guy who comes out of a strong race.  (1) CORRELATE zipped to the lead in his inner turf race last time and led for a long time and he once again has a wide post as he moves back to the main track. (8) TAPE TO TAPE has been gelded, loses the blinkers, adds Lasix and tries a route distance after he trailed in his debut in July but his workout times still say he has talent.

Race 8 – (1) AVOMAN has worked strongly three times since his maiden win which came in the Bull Page Stakes around 2 turns on the inner turf. He reverts back to a one-turn sprint for the Frost King Stakes and has speed to track. (6) ALL CANADIAN led late in the Bull Page and should enjoy cutting back to a one-turn sprint and he had a bullet workout Nov. 8, 4 furlongs in 47 flat. (8) DRAGON'S BEW won the Simcoe Stakes at this distance on Tapeta and has been on turf since then. (3) CANDY OVERLOAD woke up second time out with blinkers to win his maiden at long odds in a good clocking.

Race 9 - (6) RED STORM RISEN took the overland route on his way to his maiden win last time for US trainer Graham Motion. He has plenty of speed to run at if this big guy can work out a trip after starting from the rail post. (1) STRIKING MOON is a lovely fit in a sprint race as the 2-turn races have been a bit far for him. (9) CHAMPIT is another guy who is cutting back to a sprint distance and he had a smart workout time on Nov. 5. (5) READY SOUL came off his maiden win on the turf to be second by a head in his latest which was a fast race.

Race 10 – (1) IN SEARCH OF was finishing best of any juvenile in the Oct. 30 maiden race at this level and route distance. This guy lost all kinds of ground on the last turn as he went very wide in that slow event. (6) SUIGU STAR did well to stay on for third in his latest against some of these as he chased a wild front runner who went far too fast on the pace. (2) GRAND GIZMO also chased that front runner and made a premature move to bid for the lead. A better set up is required. (11) SOCIAL JUSTICE was second at 88 to 1 last time and beat the above juveniles after riding the rail in a good trip. He has a tough post.
