Jennifer Morrison’s Woodbine Thoroughbred Selections: Saturday, November 7, 2020
Best Bet –  (7) TEACHER'S PET – Race 1
Spot Play  -  (5) PERFECT SPEIGHTY – Race 11
Pick 4 Play (.20 cents, Races 4-7)  - 3, 7, 8 / 3, 4, 6, 10, 13 / 6, 10 / 4, 6, 9 = $18.00
Late Pick 4 Play  (.20 cents, Races 9-12) – 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8  9 /2, 4, 5/ 4, 5, 7  /  2, 10 = $25.20

Race 1 – (7) TEACHER'S PET rolled to victory in a turf sprint in Sept. And then met much tougher in a follow-up outing (the winner won in 1:07 3/5 for 6 furlongs). She looks very enticing at 6 to 1 in the morning line. (5) QUEEN'S SPEED comes a thrilling last-to-first win a this level and distance and then followed that up with a big workout. (4) MISS BEHAVE tried 2 turns on the turf last time but went too fast on the pace and she fits in this one-turn dash. (2) I'LL TAKE THE GOLD is a good little turf sprinter and does not have to have the early lead to win. Her owner/trainer and rider won a turf race Thursday.

Race 2- (2) SARATOGA VISION has had some chances to win her maiden but also has been in graded stakes this year. She shortens up for an inner turf maiden race and this should be her day. (10) WITCH MOON has been with new trainer Stuart Simon in recent weeks and she ran well in a turf race in her debut at Saratoga. (9) SHES THE NORTH will race without her blinkers and that may allow her to relax early and finish better. (4) CON THIEN should like cutting back to 1 1/16 miles.

Race 3 –(11) MISS ARIEL is on the also eligible list but if she draws in she would be tough to beat based on that near miss 13 days ago. (3) YES PLEASE just won at this class level on the turf for trainer Phil Hall and has had a month off to get ready to double up. (1) SPARKLE SAMMY seemingly had a race won a month ago but allowed Yes Please to pass her. (6) PRINCESS FABIANA gets some class relief for her return to the turf.

Race 4 – (8) FINEST JEWEL has been in super form all year and she drops back down to $10,000 claiming and will attempt to get win no. 3 as she stretches out in distance. (7) DREAMS ARE FREE plunges in class and moves out to a distance she quite likes and she may lead for a long time. (3) TWENTYTWENTYCREST is lightly raced this year and capable of doing well in a 2-turn Tapeta event. (11) DEE DEE'S ANGEL has a tough post to try and save ground but she has been rounding into form.

Race 5 – (10) NO MO TEMPER led late in her second outing at Woodbine for the Mark Casse team and that was on the inner turf. Rafael Hernandez seems to have had other options for mounts in this race. (3) JUXTAPOSE was a fancy winner at this distance on turf against easier last time and is really marching right now. (13) CAIRA was just a neck back of the top pick in that inner turf race two starts back. She might like a one-turn turf route. (4) CRYSTAL GLACIER ran a winning race off a short layoff last time on Tapeta but does she like turf?

Race 6 – The $125,000 Grade 3 Maple Leaf Stakes has attracted a modest field of fillies and mares but (6) JULIANA is a Group 1 winner at 10 furlongs in Peru in 2018 and was a clear second in her first Tapeta try at Woodbine. She comes out of a stakes race at Laurel and all 4 of her rivals have come back to win big from that race.(10) ART OF ALMOST has been knocking heads with graded stakes company many times since her win in an allowance race in July 2019. To her credit, she came close to a stakes win last time in the Belle Mahone and she is a big factor. (8) ELIZABETH WAY is a graded stakes winner on turf this year and comes out of the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor. This is her first try on Woodbine's main track but she has worked in fast times on it. (7) HEAVENLY CURLIN continued to go forward and looked good winning an allowance race Oct. 10.

Race 7- (9) SILENT RESPECT was my pick two starts back, the last time she sprinted on turf, and she flew late and just missed at 8 to 1. (6) BIG MISTAKE had some trouble in her second race of 2020 when a close second in a turf sprint in the inner course and she is fresh and sharp. (4) MISS SAVVY is a tough one on the pace in a turf sprint and is dangerous. (8) CLOSE IMAGE has been hard luck lately as she won a turf route recently but was disqualified and she was flat last time. She sprints well and is worth a long look.

Race 8 – The $175,000 Autumn Stakes has the top three from the Durham Cup and perhaps (5) SKYWIRE can turn the tables on his speedy stablemate (6) SALUTE WITH HONOR. The former got going to late in the Durham but he was turning back from 10 furlongs that day. The latter has paired up career best efforts off the layoff and will try to lead all the way again. (2) TIMESKIP ran a solid race to be third to the top pair in the Durham as he continues to thrive. (1) DREAM MAKER put it all together for his third career win over Timeskip in September.

Race 9 –I picked (9) POLAR APPEAL to win her career debut from the rail post on Oct. 8 and she ran well but the long-gone winner, California Lily crushed the field and was in a stakes race at Keeneland on Friday. This gal adds Lasix and has a red hot owner/trainer combo. (8) FROSTED FOLLY has had any number of good workout times and is a half sister to a juvenile stakes winner. (1) IN MY OPINION is the most experienced gal in the field who has placed three times in her four races. (5) HAZELBROOK is by a high percentage juvenile debut sire in Bayern, a Breeders' Cup Classic winner, and her prep times have been solid.

Race 10 – (5) AUG LUTES won her debut at Presque Isle in fast time for 6 furlongs, 1:09 4/5, and trainer Michael Trombetta has won with almost 40% of his Woodbine shippers in 2020. (4) ROCKET RELOAD was in tough in the open Glorious Song takes but was sharp in two turf dashes including the Woodbine Cares Stakes. (2) FOREST DRIFT was an impressive debut winner but troubled in the turf stake last time. (1) BLESS AND HONOR ran fast to win her debut on the turf.

Race 11 – This turf allowance /optional race has a super field going 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf.  If (5) PERFECT SPEIGHTY can slow things down in the early furlongs this well bred colt can be a big factor at a nice price. He sprinted twice when he came to Woodbine in the summer but went too fast but his recent workout times have been impressive. (7) VIEWFINDER has been in good form most of the year for Mike Keogh and will try to conquer the inner turf course. (4) DUKE OF CARTHANIA is a 3-year-old meeting older horses and he has his 7th straight different rider. He had a troubled outing in the Toronto Cup Stakes last time.  (10) ROSE'S VISION came to life recently withe a move to sprinting but he handles longer distances.

Race 12 – (10) JACKIE MILTON comes right back for the $10,00 claiming price for current interests and she led late in that turf sprint. Trainer Martin Drexler won the last race Thursday with a 35 to 1 shot. (2) SOUPER CAPACITY had a faulty beginning to her debut outing but beat half the field and she drops in class. (7) MOONLIGHT MELODY has not raced and that gives her some appeal in this maiden claiming race since she has good workout times and speed breeding. (9) TOP HAT BOSS came off a layoff and went very fast on the pace in that return before fading. She can go forward from that race.
