Jennifer Morrison’s Woodbine Thoroughbred Selections: Sunday, November 1, 2020
Best Bet –  (5) CELEBRATORY – Race 6
Spot Play – (10) BOKERMIN – Race 10
Pick 4 Play  (.20 cents, Races 4-7): 1, 2, 3, 12 / 3, 4, 9, 12 / 5 /  2, 3, 4, 6 = $12.80
Late Pick 4 Play  (.20 cents, Races 8-11): 1, 4, 5, 8 / 2, 3, 6, 8 / 2, 6, 8 / 1, 8, 10 = $28.80

Race 1 – (6) TRANQUILITY BASE is 2 for 3 on the Woodbine turf since he returned to racing in August and should handle this group at 5 furlongs. (3) IN A TWIST has a good stretch lick and plenty of speed to run at and he drops back down to $10,000 claiming. (1) NORTHERN SOLUTION came from miles behind to win a 5 furlong turf dash in his latest at 26 to 1 and should be rolling late again. (5) ICE CHALLENGE has been in good form and she moves to the barn of Alison Crook who won her first race of the year on Friday.

Race 2-  This is trainer Norm McKnight's time of year and he could take the Daily Double as (7) BODE'S MAKER is a 'double advantage' horse in this 1 1/16 mile turf event; his last 2 Beyer Speed Figures of 82 and 86 are higher than the last 2 of any rival. If Bode gets caught up in a pace battle. (1) SOLAR has been very steady in his Beyer Speed Figures and was 3rd in a race like this three starts back.  (8) ARTISTICO drops and shortens up after his turf marathon series, which started well, did not end well. (10) MIRACLE SILVER has had any number of troubled runs this year and while he is a question on grass he does get a sizable class drop.

Race 3- I picked (5) DINOSAUR BEN when he made his second career start but he was off sluggishly and landed in mid-pack at 9 to 1. He drops in class and stretches out to a route distance for trainer Catherine Day Phillips and might be ready to win his maiden. (9) SAMUEL H had his first top three placing last time when dropping in to this $9,500 claiming price and he is a logical player. (6) PERSONAL JOURNEY has had 18 chances at the maiden win but he gets to meet easier and is one to consider.(3) BIG TIME GIZMO is another who gets class relief and his sharp debut outing from last fall was good enough if he can come back to it.

Race 4- (12) INCLUSIVE has been away since August and shows light prepping but he has plenty of back class as he drops to $40,000 claiming. It is a bit of a guessing game but he likes the main track and the distance it is just a matter of the layoff and the post position. (2) VELOCE has been doing well in 2020 and he had two straight wins at this distance on Tapeta before a recent grass outing. (1) ARGENTIUM is at the top of his game off a recent win and he is hoping for lots of pace to run at. (3) COMBATIVE goes off the claim by Martin Drexler and he is a front runner who is dicey at this distance but he has some hefty Beyer Speed Figures.

Race 5 – (12) BODE'S TIPSY adds blinkers and hopes to get back to the grass for this maiden allowance for 2-year-olds. He was a smart 3rd in his second career race to eventual stakes winner Master Spy. (4) TOURIST'S DREAM is by first year sire Tourist who was a top class turf miler and this colt should go forward in his second career race and turf debut. (9) ABSTEMIOUS has a rich turf pedigree and he was a steady third in his sprint debut and is worth a look. (3) MARITIME MISSION is a second time starter with lots of grass breeding and he comes out of a hot maiden race won by eventual stakes winner Helium. (1) TWICE AS SMART closed ground in a short turf dash at Pimlico a month ago and gets Lasix.

Race 6 – (5) CELEBRATORY has run well on the turf in sprints and was even 4th in the Greenwood Stakes in August. He was in very tough in another stakes race last time against older horses and now is offered for $40,000 as he drops into a maiden event. (6) ZIP LINE TO HEAVEN led late in a turf sprint at Colonial Downs in August and has come north for high percentage trainer Michael Trombetta. (2) MR. COOL ran well in his debut on turf and is one of a few quick ones in the field. (9) LORD OF LEGENDS may be the  best speedster in the field and he came close to winning a race like this 2 starts ago.

Race 7 – There are many promising youngsters in this one mile turf maiden race and I will lean to an experienced one and take (3) AMANOFMYSTATURE who was second in his turf debut behind an impressive winner. (2) HADDASSAH has been working in nice times for a while for Kevin Attard and his older half brother Shangassah won on turf on Friday. (4) STREET TOLL has also had some nice workouts and he debuted in a Tapeta sprint but is bred for grass. (6) MONEY PRINTER is by world class sire Tapit and from a mare who won 2 of 3 career races and this colt is sent out by Josie Carroll.

Race 8 – The $250,000 Coronation Futurity is the top race for Canadian-bred 2-year-olds and at 9 furlongs is tends to stamp the early Queen's Plate favourite. Just 5 winners in the field and (5) BRITISH ROYALTY came from far off a slow pace to win his career debut Oct. 11 and looks like a good one.  (8) STEPHEN is learning quickly and was a strong second in a maiden race recently. (4) GIANT WATERS is a maiden and he is making his Tapeta debut but he has shown a lot of promise. (1) MASTER SPY set a slow pace on grass to win the Cup & Saucer around one turn on turf and is currently a leading 2-year-old.

Race 9 – (2) WHERE'S THE WIDGET is on a roll and this 8-year-old, a career earner of well over $600,000 was claimed last time when dropped to just $5,000 claiming. He won easily and doubles up in class. (6) FLORIDA WON, who is a classy old guy with about $600,000 in earnings also has been second four times in five races this season. (8) FORESTER'S DESTINY is another tough dude and he is on a roll with two straight wins. (3) COURTLY MANNER has not won in 2 years but gets some class relief.

Race 10 –  (10) BOKERMIN had a good try in a turf sprint last time and returns to $40,00 claiming. He was placed first in a maiden race in July at this distance on Tapeta so he has yet to cross the finish line in front but he has enough ability for these. (8) EXECUTIVE SEARCH is a consistently good one who likes the distance. (1) LAST AMERICAN EXIT has a super stretch kick and (11) HENRY'S GIZMO was a sharp debut winner at Fort Erie.

Race 11 – (1) ALL INCLUSIVE won his maiden in June but gets to race against maidens again as he lost that victory through the minor capsaicin positive. He is very quick and just has to get things his way early to be the winner. (2) HIP TO YOUR TRICKS has had some pleasing workout times coming into this debut. (9) WINDCHILL ZAR gets a big class drop to maiden claiming and just needs to save more power for the stretch run. (3) SOUPER BEST BET was a $275,000 yearling purchase but debuts for $25,000 for the Mark Casse team.
