Jennifer Morrison’s Woodbine Thoroughbred Selections: Friday, October 2, 2020
BEST BET:  (6) GIANT CRITIC – Race 6
SPOT PLAY: (5) TRULY ELITE – Race 4
Pick 4 Play  (.20 cents, Races 4-7) :  2, 5, 6, 8 / 1, 7, 8, 9 / 6 / 1, 4, 7, 9 = $12.80
Late Pick 4 Play (.20 cents, Races 6-9) : 6 / 1, 4, 7, 9 /  2, 6, 10 / 3, 4, 6, 9 = $9.60

Race 1 – (3) MR WILL is very quick but he was burned out in a pace battle last time when landing fourth. He has 1/2 a furlong less to negotiate and could be long gone on this field. (1) CHASING VINNY will wear blinkers for his second race of 202 and fourth try at a maiden victory. He drops a few class levels and is sure to be prominent from the get-go in this 5 1/2 furlong dash. (4) SWEET SYDNEY has a chance to pick up a top three placing with the class drop and a switch back to the Tapeta after a decent try in a turf sprint. (2) DANIELLE'S SONG chased the rapid pace set by Mr Will and company in his career debut and then had some traffic trouble. He is first time with Lasix.

Race 2- (1) MUSN'T GRUMBLE will have blinkers on for the first time and she is quite a fast one already with the equipment giving her focus. She gets back to a main track sprint, her first at this $15,000 claiming level. (5) SAVVY'S SISTER has been in good form since June and only needs to find a way to save her best for the last furlong instead of using up her power too soon. (8) FIVE DAYS IN MAY has been away since she fell in a race but her season debut was very good. (6) GO GIGI GO GIGI GO has a 67 Beyer Figure from her maiden win that makes her look good in this field but she was really flat as favourite last time.

Race 3- (1) LEA RO won her maiden on this inner turf course two starts ago and the third place finisher that day, A Little Voodoo has come back to go on a winning streak. This gal did okay in a recent Tapeta sprint and is now back on the inner turf. (7) CAPABLE put up a career best Beyer Figure off the claim when she won her maiden last time on the inner turf and she might be good for another. (8) FROST DANCE was also a recent winner on the inner course and hopes to get back to grass after she was one-paced on Tapeta in her latest. (2) SWEET SHADES met much tougher on the main turf last time as the winner scored by 7 lengths so the drop to $23,500 claiming works for her.

Race 4 – The Pick 4 wager starts here and (5) TRULY ELITE should go forward with the return to Tapeta. He has been on turf for all three races this season and did have a good outing off the bench in July but his 2 career wins have come on the main track. (6) SAN NICOLA BREW posted a 72 Beyer Figure when he won at this 1 1/16 mile distance on Tapeta two races back but at a higher level last time he was burned out in a contested pace battle. He drops to a new low level. (8) FLASHYMEISTER lost a close one last time on the grass at this $10,00 claiming level and he is just fine on the main track. (2) FLASHY OF SILVER is the probable pacesetter and he comes off a five week freshening and has a fast recent workout.

Race 5 – (9) EMBRACE MY UNCLE could sneak into contention at a nice price as he drops in class and shortens up to 6 furlongs. He is probably at his best at 7 furlongs but he could post a 65-67 Beyer Figure and that puts him in the picture. (8) BACHELOR PAD may be the quickest one in the field as he went fast in the middle part of his maiden win last time. (7) AGNELLI ran a 60 Beyer Figure the last time he sprinted on the Tapeta and he can go forward with the return to a similar race. (1) MUSKOKA STORM won his maiden at 7 furlongs in his latest for leading trainer Mark Casse and is now improving.

Race 6 – What a race (6) GIANT CRITIC ran last time on the speed favouring Tapeta as he was compromised early and late but still almost won from well off the pace. He moves to the grass and his lone win came on turf. (3) U S ARMY CORPS led all the way in his first try on this inner turf and won his maiden in a good clocking. Turf only for this guy. ( (1) HE'S A GIZMO almost doubled up last time after getting out of traffic. The MTO's would have to be considered if the race came off grass including (11) TALLESTOFTHETALL who was right behind the top pick in his latest.

Race 7 –(4) BYEBYE BYEBYE has seven top 3 finishes in his 12 races and needs a bit more punch in the last furlong but he lost some ground in his latest and does shorten up a bit to 6 furlongs. (1) WILD ABOUT BLUE had two good runs at Woodbine to begin his season and he comes off a layoff for new trainer Nick Mileni who has a strong 26% win rate with new faces in his barn.(9) OFFSUIT was outrun by a hot pace in his second career start and he goes from $15,00 claiming to just $5,000. (7) CALLING BEAR showed improvement second time out in his career and was just a nose behind the top pick at the finish.

Race 8 – (2) MAZIMAW LEGEND should be all set to win his maiden after a good try last time when returning to a sprint distance. He has some speed to run at which helps his late style. (6) DECISION MADE is a first time starter by Giant Gizmo with lots of workouts and he goes for top trainer Robert Tiller. (10) MANNY was compromised by the short distance of his latest but that was his best effort thus far and he is going forward. (3) LANDRY had speed second time out in his career and he drops in class for his second race with Lasix.

Race 9 – (4) MUSKOKA DANCER was claimed from a good outing in July and that was the last time he sprinted on the tapeta. She has been on turf and in a route race since then so watch for her to wake up. (9) YOU CANT CATCH HER was third in a race like this two starts back and while she is 0 for 11 on the all weather surface, she almost won on it last July. Note that she had a sizzling recent workout for 5 furlongs on 59 2/5, a bullet for Sept. 25. (6) TWICK had too much work to do in her latest when not far from 3rd place in her return to a Tapeta sprint. (3) MUSKOKA LADY is in sharp form coming off her maiden win.
