Mike Bozich’s Rideau Carleton Selections: Sunday, August 4, 2019

Best Bet - (2) GUCCI EYEPATCH - Race 2
Spot Play - (4) CAPTEUR DE REVE - Race 4
Early Pick 4 - 3,6,7/4/3,4,6/3,4,5,6,9 = $9.00
Late Pick 4 - 2,7,8/2,6,7/1,8,9/3,5,6 = $16.20

Race 1 - (4) COR LEO raced admirably on the grind last week to eke out a victory. She is well placed here for her third career start. (3) ROYAL ENCORE gets first time Brosseau after a series of even efforts against similar. A small step forward puts her in the conversation. (1) SOMBRE loomed boldly two starts back and nearly pulled it off. He draws well but must mind his manners.

Race 2 - (2) GUCCI EYEPATCH tried to set the tempo last time and that didn’t work out all that well. With that being said, she appears to have talent and meets a beatable field. (4) DIAMOND CALL’s qualifier was ok timewise, and he did have to endure broken equipment in his last. (5) LAST MINUTE MIKE found the New York Excelsior series a bit tough two starts back and seems to fit better here.

Race 3 - (6) MAJO RAFIKI simply did not fire as a heavy favorite against similar in his last. We are willing to give him a chance at retribution against this group. (3) INDEPENDENCE TIME overcame the parked mile to win fairly easily last out. If he brings a similar try to the dance tonight, it could be lights out. (7) PARLAY SEELSTER was shuffled last out. His speed could overcome the post tonight.

Race 4 - (4) CAPTEUR DE REVE was used to get position in his last from a poor post. He faces a bit tougher but is a longshot to consider with the post improvement. (5) SOMETIMES WHEN was shuffled last time and finished well. A clear trip could see him pop at a nice mutuel price. (8) REVENUE AGENT has been feeling good as of late, winning his last two convincingly. The post is the lone concern here.

Race 5 - (6) PRINCE GIOVANNI makes another drop in class after a series of even to good tries. He is the obvious one to beat. (4) SILVERADO nearly took a better bunch all the way last out. Two starts back at this class, he rallied well from poor position. (3) REIKI makes his first start for new connections and the trainer is hitting .431. He is facing tougher, so demand value.

Race 6 - (6) THE GIRLS OF IMAGE was facing, and competing well, with tougher at Mohawk as of late. The concern is the 22-day layoff. (5) SINGHAMPTON KENNY closed well last time but does his best work on or near the lead. We like the fact he came forward last week. (9) HP PATRIOTE gets an easier group after a clunker last out. He beat a slightly tougher group four starts back. (4) DARCEE N closed sharply to beat a similar group in his most recent. He will need a pace setup again. (3) THE ROADIES looks to rebound after something went off the rails last start. He nearly beat tougher three back.

Race 7 - (7) PASADENA STAR looks fairly logical on the drop in class. He has the speed to overcome the poor post. (8) CHEQUE THE MAGIC drops again in class after three straight rail trips. He will need to be put into the ballgame early for any chance. (2) STREAMSONG had to deal with broken equipment last out. He raced well enough two starts back and draws well here.

Race 8 - (6) STONEBRIDGE BEACH left, yielded, and raced well to the wire against similar last week. He can race from on or off the pace and figures to offer decent value. (7) CHALEURS AD has been super consistent at this level for quite some time now. His sharpness is hard to ignore. (2) AVATAR J is another that is riding a hot form streak. This will be a tougher test, however.

Race 9 - (8) BADSTORMANYPORT has been popular in the claiming box as of late. Steps up here but has the speed to overcome the post. (1) HOPETOBEFIRST displayed a solid late kick in his latest. He draws well and should have ample striking position. (9) WOO SHARK got shuffled last out against this group. He was claimed three back by a good barn.

Race 10 - (3) MAJO LOU BEKA gets major class relief here and draws well. He figures to be one tough customer. (5) MISS ROCKADALI was parked since the word go last out, so she deserves another chance. (6) SAVANNAH SPLENDOR drops in class after a series of even efforts against tougher. He defeated a similar group four back. (9) MACHIN A TRICK made an uncovered bid last out only to falter a bit at the end. The post is a concern. (1) LUCKY PLAYER gets post relief after racing evenly in her last. She is a price option underneath.
