Michael Carter’s Rideau Carleton Selections: Sunday, October 20, 2019

Best Bet - (5) MUSSELSFRMBRUSSELS - Race 10
Spot Play – (2) BEACH RUNNER A M – Race 3
20-cent Early Pick 4 (R3) – 2/1,4,5/1,5/2,5,9 - $3.60
20-cent Late Pick 4 (R7) – ALL/3/1,3/5 - $2.80

Race 1 - (6) MACH DOMI was razor sharp last week in a race where he dead-heated.  Look for him to be the pacesetter tonight.  (5) ZARCONIA SEELSTER gets a driver change back to Auger this week, she has been improving and should be competitive here.  (1) QUEENJANE BLUECHIP just did not fire in her last start, have to think that was a fluke, going to give her another opportunity to return to the winner's circle tonight.
Race 2 – (4) BLOSSOM ONTHEBEACH adds Lasix for the first time following a disappointing effort at Mohawk Park.  Look for her to return to success against easier.  (5) MACH LIAM went to the top last week before wavering at the end.  I can see him working out a trip racing near the front again tonight. (1) SPORTS SCENE draws well and gets Lasix for the second time tonight.  He did not improve like I would have liked in his last start, going to give another chance to succeed here.
Race 3 – (2) BEACH RUNNER A M could very well spice things up in the Pick-4, especially if the 4/1 morning line holds.  He has speed to work with and could try to set the pace early.  (9) SAVANNAH SPLENDOR raced well with hopples last out and he was parked for about a half-mile. This week he gets top driver Brosseau, look for improvement. (4) PASSIONATE PRINCE got the trip last week and did not fire, the move inside could make the difference here.
Race 4 - (4) OFFICIALLY RUSTY was a $1,500 yearling purchase and has far surpassed expectations each year.  This is a gutsy gelding who gets some major class relief here. (1) MOHEGAN BLUE CHIP made up a decent amount of ground in his last start against this group.  The rail draw will allow this versatile gelding a better opportunity to strike.  (5) WINDSUN CHEYENNE qualified well on October 13, that combined with a decent class drop makes this longshot a contender.
Race 5 – (1) MACHAPELO went to the top last week from post six and that may have been what did him in at the end of the mile.  He is a fighter and should race better tonight from the rail.  (5) JOLTS PRAYER didn’t get the best of trips against upper level conditioned company last out.  Driver change to Brosseau could make the difference.  (3) OK EBURY had a slow return to the races this year, throw out the last start following his sick scratch.  He should improve with a start under his belt.
Race 6 - (9) VERO AMORE BI has been racing exceptionally well at Woodbine Mohawk Park and I believe that form can transition well here.  (2) STORMONT ROYALTY closed gamely from post seven last week but had a lot of ground to make up.  The inside draw should allow her to get a better trip.  (5) Y S SUZANNE is another sharp closer who will be coming quickly late. She is not out of this. (8) CAPTEUR DE REVE was stung to the first quarter last week and just couldn’t make up the ground late.  Look for him to get a slightly better trip here.  (6) REVENUE AGENT has not had much luck with the draw as of late, he does however, have speed that could shake the race up.
Race 7 – (2) MISTER BIG TOP got a perfect trip last week and while he didn’t fire very hard down the stretch, he did fend off pressure from the others.  That grit is hard to ignore against this class.  (7) LITTLE CLAYT was forced to come from off the pace last out and he did not seem to like it.  Look for him to be more forwardly placed tonight.  (4) CLIFF DRUMMOND didn’t get the best of trips last week, his speed rating matches the par for this group, I like his chances to hit the ticket at big odds.
Race 8 – (3) SILVERADO closed strongly in his last, that line is hard to ignore.  He is one of the more consistent horses in the field.  (6) THE ROADIES got the trip two weeks in a row and just couldn’t capitalize.  If he can get good position, I think he hits the ticket at big odds.  (2) UFDRAGONS ROCKET is another strong closer who has a lot of potential to hit the board at decent odds.
Race 9 - (3) LMC MASS GEM is one of the more versatile competitors in the field this week.  While he didn’t fire last week, he has been known to fight hard down the stretch.  (1) STONEBRIDGE HALL has closed sharply in both of his last two starts.    (8) TOUCHDOWN AS gets Lachance back in the bike who gets along well with this gelding.  Post position hurts but look for him to hit the ticket.
Race 10 – (5) MUSSELSFRMBRUSSELS has won four-straight, and that streak is unlikely to be broken tonight.  He is a strong gelding with a lot of racing ability.  (8) THE PLATINUM GUY could very well hit the board even from this outside post.  I can see Harvey getting him into a good striking spot.  (2) DARCEE N looked really good in his qualifier on Oct. 13.  When he flashes early speed, he normally races well.  (6) ATOMIC MILLION AM is a pretty versatile and consistent gelding who has shown a lot of promise.  (4) WILDCAT CAM is another consistent gelding who can hit the ticket at decent odds.
