Michael Carter’s Rideau Carleton Selections: Sunday, October 13, 2019

Best Bet - (7) NATIONAL DEBT - Race 8
Spot Play – (2) SAULSBROOK LANNY – Race 9
20-cent Early Pick 4 (R3) – 2,4,5/1,3/4,6/2,4,8 - $7.20
20-cent Late Pick-4 (R7) – 3,6/5,7/2,5/3,5,9 - $4.80

Race 1 - (2) MCFREELY takes a step up to face tougher this week after two nice efforts against age-restricted company.  Look for a good effort.  (5) ZARCONIA SEELSTER closed gamely last week and just missed.  She will be coming late.  (3) BETTOR JET had a lot of ground to cover and passed tiring rivals last week.  Going to give him another opportunity to regroup here at a price.
Race 2 – (4) MELANIE G got the trip from post six last out and used it to her advantage.  Inside post draw really helps her chances here.  (2) LMC MASS GEM is versatile and hits the board frequently.  I expect him to be a part of the ticket.  (1) HLDONTGHTTOYURDRMS tired late in the mile last week while managing to hold on for third.  Look for him to be on the ticket.
Race 3 – (5) TEAL HANOVER is by far the speed of the race and will be controlling the fractions up top.  She is ultra-consistent and should not be overlooked.  (2) GODIVA MACKIAVELYC didn’t get the best trip at Three Rivers last week.  She looks for a return to success at Rideau tonight.  (4) SPORTS SCENE adds Lasix for the first time this week.  He could provide some value underneath.
Race 4 - (3) ALONA takes a step back to face easier after racing at Saratoga.  She has some early speed to work with and that should play to her advantage.  (1) DECRET JUSTICIALE goes back on Lasix this week after a disappointing effort last out.  He has raced well on Lasix before and I can see him improving.  (5) AIR GLIDER has hit the board in three of his last four pari-mutuel starts and that makes him a solid contender against this group.
Race 5 – (6) MACHAPELO closed strongly last week and was narrowly defeated.  He has big ability and that is something to look at against this group tonight.  (4) MOREMUNKYBUSINESS didn’t get the best of trips last out from post six, tonight she gets a driver change to Marie Auger who has had some success with her before.  (2) ILL BEA STAR TOO finally gets a post draw that is favorable after being on the outside in her last couple of starts.  I could see her improving here.
Race 6 - (2) AVATAR J steps back to face easier for trainer Jamie Copley and picks up leading driver Guy Gagnon tonight.  She has a decent amount of speed and that may work to her advantage.  (4) ASHLEYSBEST got the trip last week and just could not get there in the end.  With not a lot of speed in the race, it could allow him to clear early.  (8) RUB OF THE GREEN N closed gamely last week, but just had too much ground to make up.  I look for him to be a part of the ticket at a price.  (1) PANTHEON SEELSTER has been a part of the Hi-5 ticket in all but one of his recent starts where he was lifted to fifth.  He has speed and could provide even more value to the ticket.  (5) OFFICIALLY RUSTY tried to close last week and just could not get going.  Post draw is slightly better this week.
Race 7 – (6) THRILLING TIMES has won six straight and hit the board in 10 of 13 starts this year.  I don’t see him getting beat against this group.  (3) CAMS LUCKY SAM is one of the more consistent horses in the group tonight.  He steps back in class for trainer/driver Guy Gagnon.  (8) REALRUBIES AT PLAY has had a couple of weeks off and that may help his chances as he enters the race fresh.
Race 8 – This is my favorite race on the program as it is extremely competitive.  (7) NATIONAL DEBT has won four of his last five starts against top company.  He is a big closer and will be coming late.  (5) STONEBRIDGE BEACH didn’t get the best of trips last week following a two-race win streak against lower level company.  I think he is worth a play underneath.  While (2) ATOMIC MILLION AM didn’t finish that well last week, he has performed well against this group before.  I see him being a part of the ticket late.
Race 9 - (2) SAULSBROOK LANNY looked strong in his last start after getting the trip.  He could provide some value to the exotics. (5) SAULSBROOK PEACH was parked almost the entire mile last week and still managed to win easily.  I expect another big effort tonight.  (3) BESTOFBEST HANOVER took the lead at the half in his last start before tiring late.  He faces the easier group again tonight and should bounce back off that effort.
Race 10 – (3) SANTANNA TONY is one of the more consistent horses in the group tonight.  He draws well and should be able to get a trip from here.  (9) CLIFF DRUMMOND is coming off a win from post seven against this group.  He has some early speed and could get into a good early position off the gate.  (5) OAKROCK ELDORADO comes back to face easier after a decent effort at Mohawk Park where he raced better than the line shows. (8) ASTERISM is another that could fire off the car.  He is a big contender to hit the ticket against this group. (6) LITTLE CLAYT handled the transition back to Rideau pretty well last week.  He was stung to the first quarter, so you almost have to give him another chance to improve tonight.
