Michael Carter’s Rideau Carleton Selections: Sunday, September 22, 2019

Best Bet - (4) THRILLING TIMES - Race 3
Spot Play – (5) JEFFS JOURNEY – Race 2
Early Pick 4 – 4/4,5,7/1,4/3,4,6,7 - $4.80
Late Pick 4 – 1,2,8/4,5,6/2,3/4,9 - $7.20

Race 1 - (1) G A SPEED JOEY comes off a two-race winning streak, his last race was so visually impressive, I don’t see him getting beat here.  (3) DIAMOND CALL has been ultra-consistent as of late.  He has only been worse than third twice in his young career, look for him to be around late.  (4) BRUTUS BAYAMA is another consistent colt who seems to be rounding into form.

Race 2 – (5) JEFFS JOURNEY has won two of his last four starts and while he steps up in class, his consistency is hard to come away from.  There is value in him this week.  (2) MACH DOMI will most likely be the favorite after two impressive races.  The fact he tired late last week; tells me he is not unbeatable.  Going to bet against and use him underneath.  (4) ZARCONIA SEELSTER is a mare who always manages to be around the ticket.  Expect her to be close late.

Race 3 – (4) THRILLING TIMES enters off five straight victories.  Since Gagnon picked up the lines this gelding has been unstoppable.  (5) AUDI BAYAMA went to the top last week and tired towards the wire getting narrowly defeated in the end.  She has a big chance against this group and could shock.  (2) ARSENAL DE CHAFRA raced extremely well in his last start before being disqualified.  I believe in his chances tonight, one to watch.

Race 4 - (7) VOLARE has won two-straight at two different venues.  The outside post is a slight concern with the move up in class, but I believe he can show up at a price tonight.  (5) REVENUE AGENT has only missed the board once in six starts against this group and he has shown that he can beat these.  He has early speed and could be dictating the fractions early.  (4) BATTING STATS threw in a clunker last week with a break at the start.  He has a good amount of value behind him, it will be interesting to see what the step up in class will do.

Race 5 - (4) ASTERISM steps back slightly in class looking to improve, but he really doesn’t have that much improving to do.  He is a speedy gelding who shows promise and should be around this week at a price.  (1) THE ROADIES draws the rail and gets a driver change to Gagnon who has had some luck with this gelding before.  Expect him to be around at a short price.  (2) HP PATRIOTE qualified very well on September 15; it shows that he is ready to return to the races.

Race 6 - (4) Y S SUZANNE closed sharply last week, having to make up a lot of ground late.  She draws well this week and gets Berube back in the bike who she gets along well with.  (7) MISSIONOFTHEHEART gets a tough draw this week, but she has been racing particularly well and showed up strong in the feature at Three-Rivers last out.  I could see her showing up and providing some value.  (3) CHEQUE THE MAGIC faces slightly tougher this week and he is a gelding that is very much dependent on the trip.  If he can be close to the pace, he should hit the ticket.  (6) STONEBRIDGE HALL was an impressive winner in his last start making a big sweeping move late.  Look for him to be flying late.  (9) TOUCHDOWN AS has been struggling with breaking issues as of late, if he can stay flat, he should make the ticket.

Race 7 – (1) BRIGADIERBRONSKI A draws well this week and if he makes the front, he manages to be close every time.  I see him controlling the fractions up top and holding them off late.  (8) RUB OFTHE GREEN N is one of the more consistent horses in the field and he has been competing from everywhere post wise.  Look for him to be firing from off the pace late at a price.  (2) DINNER AT THE MET went to the lead last week and was narrowly defeated. Look for him to be battling early.

Race 8 – (5) CHALEURS AD has won three of his last six and he shows no signs of stopping.  He will be close to the pace and battling at the end of the mile.  (6) NATIONAL DEBT has won two-straight including a monstrous 1:51.4 effort on September 1st.  He has been off for a couple of weeks, that is my only concern.  (4) BESTOFBEST HANOVER has a good amount of early speed to contend with.  The question will be if he makes the front, will he be able to hold on late.

Race 9 - (2) MOHEGAN BLUE CHIP was parked the mile last week and still closed gamely to be second.  The race before he had to close gamely from off the pace, and just had too much ground to make up.  The post draw was very kind to him, look for him to be firing late down the stretch.  (3) STONEBRIDGE BEACH has been struggling as of late with the post draw.  Facing easier this week, makes him a serious contender.  (4) TWIN B LAKER has only missed the board once over the past six starts.  He is as consistent as they come, I see him hitting the ticket at a price.

Race 10 – (4) MUSSELSFRMBRUSSELS had to come from off the pace last out, but he fought gamely down the stretch to score a victory.  Look for him to be coming late tonight.  (9) DARCEE N gets a tough draw this week, but Brosseau returns to the bike who he seems to get along with.  I see him being closer this week.  (6) CAMS LUCKY SAM draws tough again this week, but he has been racing well as of late.  His connections are hot at Rideau and I can’t let him slide underneath at a big price.  (5) TYLERS BEACH BOY has won two-straight and looks to continue that success.  (3) BADSTORMANYPORT struggled in his last start after being stung to the first quarter.  I see him improving this week.
