Preliminary Long-Term Funding Consultation Report Released
Ontario Racing is pleased to release a preliminary report that summarizes the views and perspectives received from industry stakeholders regarding a proposed long term funding framework for horseracing in Ontario. This report will be posted for industry comment for a period of 25 days, to ensure that industry participants have ample opportunity to provide additional and new feedback regarding the findings contained in this report.

During this second phase of consultation, Ontario Racing will provide an opportunity for horse racing industry associations and racetracks who did not provide written submissions during the first phase of consultations to do so. The second phase of consultations will ensure that the final report is an accurate representation of the Ontario horse racing industry’s perspective on the proposed long term funding framework. Industry participants may provide their perspectives to Ontario Racing on this preliminary report both online and by written submission.

To ensure that industry participants have all relevant information regarding the funding proposal, and in response to feedback received during the initial consultation period, Ontario Racing has worked with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and the Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) to facilitate the release of the legal document (“Letter of Intent” or LOI) that underpins the proposed funding framework.

A webinar will be hosted by Ontario Racing on February 10, 2017, featuring legal counsel from both OLG and WEG, to ensure that an accurate assessment and a clear understanding of this document is communicated.  An invitation to this webinar will be circulated on Monday, February 6, 2017.

Ontario Racing thanks those who have participated in the initial consultation period, and appreciates the support of the provincial government and OLG as we work to deliver a sustainable path forward for the industry.
