A dynamic duo from the barn of trainer Greg Watson heads the $73,950 Ontario Sires Stakes Derby final on Sunday July 3 at Ajax Downs. Alakazaam, currently on a four-race winning streak dating back to October, and Ice Fishn, an fast-finishing filly, are among the 10 entrants in the 350-yard dash. The fastest qualifiers from three trial races on June 19 make up the competitive field of Ontario sired 3-year-olds

Alakazaam, a flashy sorrel gelding bred in Maryland, had the fastest trial time of :17.72, a 96 speed index when he won by a nose over Hope Rambles On. Owned by Full Circle Racing and Cummings Cattle Co., Alakazaam won two allowance races to begin his season including one by a neck over Ice Fishn. Chelsey Willick returns to ride.
Ice Fishn, owned by Stephanie Keeble, who trained the Watson runners in 2015, burst to the lead late in her trial to win by half a length over Hal Bent in a time of :17.92, a 90 speed index. Danielle Dobert ride the grey filly who was bred by Full Circle in Ontario.
Speedocracy was also a trial winner and he was unchallenged in his dash, leading all the way to score by 1 ½ lengths under his regular rider Cassandra Jeschke. George Coleman owns this tall bay gelding and Scott Reid trains. His trial time of :19.86 earned him a 92 speed index. Speedocracy was bred by Katie Browne, who works as the Ajax Downs outrider.
The OSS Derby goes as the last of seven races on the Sunday card of racing with a post time of 3:37 p.m.
Fireworks on Canada Day, July 1 in Ontario Stakes Maturity trials
Multiple stakes winner Jesskissmytexas rolled a three-quarter length win off the inside rail to post the fastest qualifying time for the Ontario Stakes Maturity during a Canada Day celebration at Ajax Downs on July 1.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races of Ontario sired 4-year-olds and up, will return to Ajax Downs on Sunday, July 17th to battle for the winner's share of a $50,000-added purse going 330 yards.
Ridden by jockey Brian Bell, Jesskissmytexas completed his task in :16.690 seconds, a 101 speed index into a 4 mph crosswind, to record the top qualifying mark.
Don Reid trains the son of Mr Jess Tex for Richard Wincikaby and DK Training Centre. Donald Ito bred the 6-year-old from the Strawfly Special mare Strawfly Fortune. Jesskissmytexas was winning for the ninth time in 19 races and he has earned $136,141. Jesskissmytexas won the 2014 Ontario Stakes Maturity.
Jockey Carly Furlonger rode 2015 Horse of the Year Fiesty Icon to the second fastest time after winning the second trial by one-length for owner/trainer Richard Kennedy. Picov Cattle Co. bred the Sugarman Perry gelding in Ontario from the Special Effort mare Feisty Sprit.
A stakes winner of seven races and more than $81,000, Fiesty Icon completed the 330 yards in :16.750 seconds, a 98-speed index with a 7 mph tailwind.
