5 Things You Need to Know About... Milena Kwiecien

Milena Kwiecien has built up her stable of Quarter Horses for 2016 and it has paid off. Already this year, Kwiecien has won important races with R Painted Pistol and Valiant Stoli Time.  Kwiecien also has reining and show horses on the 100-acre farm in Burlington, ON she owns with partner Glen Young.

1 - What is one of your guilty pleasures?

My friends and family know to feed me as soon as I start getting hungry. So food would definitely be my guilty pleasure. Food and lots of it. Anyone who knows me, knows I plan my life around my meals.

2 - Who would play you in a movie and what would the movie be about?

Probably Mellisa McCarthy. The movie would be about a clumsy yet feisty and determined woman trying to undertake running a farm, and along the way having lots of misadventures. I feel like I twist an ankle or run into farm equipment on a weekly basis.

3 - What is usually playing in your car?

Mostly I listen to country or pop, but I'm a musical gypsy so depending on my mood I can listen to any type of music.

4 - Starbucks or Tim Horton's?

Tim Horton's all the way! With a ridiculous amount of cream. Seriously like half a cup of cream. The ladies at the local Tim's know me as the crazy cream lady.

5 - What is the craziest thing that happened to you with a horse?

I owned a retired thoroughbred stallion named Majestic Lord (or Harold) and one winter I decided it was a great idea to use him to pull me around on some skis. I put together an harness MacGyver- style and tied myself to Harold and off we skied on an adventure. Looking back it was a very dangerous idea but at the time I thought I was brilliant for coming up with it. I was pretty surprised when  Harold's feet would kick up snow right in my face so the skiing didn't last too long.

With horses the adventures never end. From broken fences to mending wounds, I would never take for granted the amazing animals I've had the privilege of knowing and loving.
